About Us
Who We Are
For 110 years the people called Houma First United Methodist Church have been in mission and ministry to the greater Houma community. We are a people committed to openness, connection, and service.
At the center of our life of worship is Holy Communion (the Eucharist or Lord’s Supper) where ALL are invited to come and feast no matter who you are, where you have been, or what life circumstance has taken place.
We recognize that all of us need connection, a place to get real and live life alongside others. We know that God is found in the every day of life, in the places where we live, work, and play. We were not made to be alone and we seek to make room for connection to God through one another!
Jesus has called us to serve one another, our families, neighbors, and fellow citizens. In serving, we meet God but we also seek to make God known.
Finally, we are disciples in the making. We recognize that we are imperfect, broken, struggling, and constantly missing the mark. We also recognize that God is with us in the midst of it all and invites us to be a people of healing, wholeness, and new life. We are constantly evolving as we ask the difficult questions of life and faith in a community of love and acceptance. We are also a community centered on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus who called us to love God and love neighbor.
